I first purchased the RingConn Gen 2 Air in Silver on 8 October 2025 after deciding I wanted something lighter and more comfortable for sleep tracking than my Apple Watch. For around $250 AUD on Amazon, it felt like a solid starting point. The packaging was simple, the instructions were easy to follow, and the setup process in the app was straightforward. I didn’t order the sizing kit and instead matched the size to my wedding ring. Size 9 ended up fitting perfectly. Right from the first night, I barely noticed it on my finger. Comfort is easily one of the best things about smart rings, especially when you mainly want sleep insights without wearing a heavy device to bed.
The RingConn app itself is clean and easy to navigate. It gives detailed breakdowns of sleep, readiness, heart rate, stress and recovery. Some of the information can be a bit complex, so I occasionally used AI to help interpret trends, particularly around sleep quality. Overall, for a first smart ring, the Gen 2 Air delivered what I wanted: effortless sleep tracking and a lightweight feel that made it easy to wear day and night.
Unfortunately, about a month later, around 15 November 2025, the Gen 2 Air started having issues. It stopped syncing entirely and constantly showed as “charging” in the app, even when it was on my finger. I tried every recommended troubleshooting step and nothing worked. I contacted Amazon support and, to their credit, they were very helpful and offered a refund once I returned the ring and charger. I also reached out to RingConn support. Their reply took a few days, which felt a little slow, but they did offer a replacement ring if I preferred that over a refund.
During this time, Black Friday sales were running, so I decided to upgrade instead of waiting for a replacement. I bought the RingConn Gen 2 in Matte Black, and the difference was obvious. The packaging felt more premium, the charging case was more practical than the dock, and the ring itself felt sturdier and more refined. It also includes extra features such as sleep apnea detection, which the Gen 2 Air didn’t offer. Most importantly, the syncing issues disappeared. The Gen 2 has been reliable from day one.
Since upgrading, sleep tracking has been consistent and accurate. The comfort at night continues to be a major advantage, especially compared to wearing a smartwatch. The insights feel more actionable, and I’ve had no technical issues so far. If anything, the experience has reinforced my view that smart rings are ideal for people who want meaningful data without the bulk of a wearable screen.
There are still areas RingConn could improve: faster support responses, clearer explanations inside the app, and better stability across all models. But based on my experience, the Gen 2 is the version I would recommend. The Gen 2 Air is fine when it works, but the Gen 2 feels like the more polished and reliable product. For anyone in Australia wanting comfortable, nightly sleep tracking without wearing a watch, RingConn offers strong value and a genuinely useful set of insights.
